Remote monitoring

Know it’s ready without walking outside

With Kelm’s Mobile Link monitoring plan, if your generator has a fault, Kelm is notified and sends a technician out to correct it, with no service call fee. The plan includes the Silver maintenance package.

  • Kelm is notified of faults. When your generator raises a fault, the alert comes to Kelm, not just to your phone.
  • A technician is sent out. We send a technician to correct the issue, with no service call fee for monitoring customers.
  • Silver Package included. One maintenance visit a year with the full 11-point checklist, for air-cooled or liquid-cooled units.
  • Exercise and outage status. See that the weekly exercise ran and when the unit starts, runs and returns to standby.

Automatic backup power for Gulf Coast storm season
Why a standby generator

Automatic backup power for Gulf Coast storm season

Unlike a portable generator, a home standby unit is permanently installed, runs on natural gas or LP-gas and switches on automatically through a transfer switch.

  • Starts automatically when utility power is lost
  • No extension cords or refueling with gasoline
  • Electrical, gas and pad work handled by one licensed team
  • Generac and Kohler options to compare

FAQ

Common questions

Straight answers. For anything specific to your home, give us a call.

Should I choose Generac or Kohler?

Both make well-regarded home standby generators. The right fit depends on the size of the home, what you want backed up, your fuel source and your budget. We’ll walk through the options with you.

What size generator do I need?

It depends on which circuits and appliances you want powered, from essentials only to the whole house. We size the unit after looking at your electrical panel and loads.

Does a standby generator need a permit?

Most installations require permits and inspections from the local jurisdiction. We handle the permitting as part of the job.

Can it run on natural gas or propane?

Home standby generators typically run on natural gas or LP-gas (propane). We’ll confirm what’s available at your home and run the fuel line.

How often does a generator need maintenance?

Generators need periodic maintenance like oil, filters and battery checks. Kelm offers Gold (two visits a year) and Silver (one visit a year) maintenance plans, plus a Mobile Link monitoring plan that includes Silver.
